Amber Crow: A Lifelong Commitment to the DD Community
My name is Amber Crow, and my connection to the developmental disabilities (DD) community has been lifelong. My family has been involved in provider work for as long as I can remember, transitioning from farming to being a DD provider. Watching this shift, I saw firsthand how much of our family’s values and dedication to helping others carried over into this new path. My own experiences have only deepened my commitment to this cause. Growing up, I witnessed the challenges and triumphs of this community firsthand as a family member. My sister was diagnosed with autism in 1994, and our family relocated from Butler County to the Omaha area to find the supports she needed. Those early experiences shaped my understanding of the importance of person-centered care, a principle that continues to guide my work today.
From a young age, I knew my future would be deeply rooted in the DD community. After graduating from William Jennings Bryan High School, I enlisted in the U.S. Navy at 17 and served as a Seabee during my five years on active duty, completing three deployments. I am proud to still serve as a reservist today. When I returned home, I began pursued a degree in psychology at Creighton University while also working with an Omaha-based agency. There, I focused on quality assurance and policy, which gave me valuable insights into the strengths and shortcomings of existing systems.
As I gained experience, I realized that I wanted to create something better—an agency truly centered on family values, real people, and meaningful outcomes. Too often, I saw subpar care and a "business-first" approach that didn’t truly serve individuals or their families. Determined to make a difference, I founded my agency with the goal of delivering personalized, compassionate care and fostering a workplace where employees feel valued and supported.
Over time, I saw how important it was to extend this vision beyond urban centers like Omaha and into Nebraska’s rural communities. People in smaller towns often face additional challenges accessing high-quality, person-centered care, and I made it my mission to ensure that our services reach every corner of the state. Whether in big cities or rural areas, our commitment remains the same: to deliver the best outcomes for the people we serve while creating a supportive and innovative environment for our staff. Currently we are working towards supporting Colfax county and Washington county residentially! We are hoping to expand day services in the near future as well.
Person-centered care isn’t easy—it’s not a one-size-fits-all solution—but it’s the foundation of everything we do. As we grow, I am committed to staying true to our family-oriented roots, fostering necessary change, and making a lasting impact on the DD community across Nebraska.
I am excited to continue this journey, supporting growth, innovation, and the individuals and families who inspire us every day.
